Based in Taipei, Taiwan, Lin Chih-An is currently a graduate student at National Taiwan University of Arts. She specializes in using visual language and diverse media to create a wide range of works, including sculpture, video installation, sculptural space, etc., which explore existential issues related to her personal experience in an in-depth way. Using self-exploratory thinking as a starting point of her work, Lin makes use of interchanging roles and verbal and non-verbal expression to portray and re-examine her relations with the environment and interact with viewers, helping them to gradually understand their own nature. In the process of verbal and non-verbal communication, the interactive device enables the viewers to conduct an inner dialogue in a space informed by the sense of sight and hearing.

Through personal experience and replacing the sense of hearing with the sense of sight as the communicative agent, this work allows vision to be more advantageous in gaining understanding based on one’s sensitivity and enables people to understand the uniqueness of synesthesia. By transferring hearing to seeing and reinforcing the auditory perception through the visual sense, it allows people to perceive the emotion incurred in the moment and grasp the shape of sound. The artist employs non-verbal communication, such as gesture, facial expression, sound and light, using interactive effects to construct a spatial installation “surrounded by the senses of sight and hearing” while instantly shortening the distance between their inner worlds. A playful chase between the soundless and the sound-making, they are now entering each other’s imagination and sensory world.
